August 23rd Blog!

Hello everyone!

I know, it's been a while.  The summer has been very busy and we took a small hiatus from the cooking lessons.  It's time to start back up again.  The next cooking lesson will be great!  Visit "Tell me about cooking lessons" to find out more.  I can't wait to see you there!

You know food for kids and adult lunches can be a challenge.  I always find myself packing the same things over and over!!!  I know, you do the same.  Admit it!!!!   I try to be creative and here are some things my son likes to take in his lunch that are healthy but break the monotony of the PB&J.

Wraps - My son loves them!  Simple turkey or ham and cheese always works.  There are even high fiber wraps now.  This is also great for adults.  When my son took these to school the other kids actually asked him to swap his wrap for chips and cookies!  I don't know what it is but they love it!  Try to sneak in lettuce and tomatoe if they will eat it.

Cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower with Ranch or Italian Dressing.  My son is a big ranch fan so I give him light ranch with cut up veggies.  He eats it and I can change up every couple days.  You can also try tomatoes or any other veggies that your kids like.  I take my veggies with the "Chipotle Red Pepper Humus" from Trader Joe's or the "Dill" Humus from Whole Foods.  They are both great!!!

The new flavors of Triscuits or Wheat Thins are great as well.  Something different.

Fruit, fruit and more fruit!!!  I love apples and oranges but there are other fruits.  Get creative and go for plums, peaches, nectarines and kiwi!!!  You kids will love you for it!  I also buy frozen fruit (no sugars added) from Trader Joe's.  It's a lot cheaper than buying pineapple in the winter.

I'll give more later but this will get you started!

Bon Appetit!
